Austin's reputation as a party town is well earned.
And along the (in)famous Sixth Street and surrounding entertainment district, the weekend starts on Thursday.
But this pic captures that moment of calm before the party storm when dozens of nearly empty clubs' bass is booming and lasers flashing, desperately trying to catch someone's eye.
It's strangely lonely.

Like in families everywhere, those "things" don't always get along.
Having lived in many other parts of the country, I can appreciate that Texas and Austin have such strong and clashing senses of identity. Being from those places means something.
Texas keeps its promises about things being bigger here. Bigger space, for one. There's just room.
Austin keeps its promises about filling that room with music.
